PROCESSING
OF TROPHIES

RE-CHECKING AND RE-TAGGING OF TROPHIES

On arrival at our processing facility, all trophies are being re-checked according to the Collection Register and PH register. The trophies are then simultaneously re-tagged with an unbreakable aluminum tag on which the client’s number is crafted. The originally written tag also stays on the trophies. Each horn, hide, skull, hoof, bone or any part that might be exported, receives an aluminum tag with his number.

SKULL AND HORNS PROCESS

At first, all skulls, horns, bones and claws are subjected to a natural sun-drying process after which they are boiled for a maximum period of 25 minutes and then cleaned. According to the time schedule, they are then subjected to a Solution to ensure that all possible bacteria are killed. After this step they get sun-dried. During the next step, they are bleached. After the bleaching, they are left to get sun-dried again.

SKIN PROCESS

All skins are dipped in a pickled bath for a minimum period of 48 hours. After this process, all skins are subjected to a Salt Action for a continuous period of not less than 30 days.

Both the above-mentioned processes are approved of by the South African Veterinary Services (Department of Agriculture). These processes will not take longer than 3 months. Please note that should you have one of the following animals in your shipment the dipping and drying process will take longer because we are unable to remove the horns from these animals: Blue and Black Wildebeest, Red Hartebeest, Impala and Buffalo. However, it should not take any longer than 3-4 months.
